A Weekend in Prague |
|
Last weekend saw me and Karl head off for a short weekend break to the beautiful city of Prague!
I didn't quite know what to expect from this city- was it going to be the same as any other city? Was I going to enjoy it?
I've never really had any real city break holidays before (apart from London) so this was pretty much a new experience for me. I am one of those people that has basically just had nice hot sunny holidays (usually somewhere Spanish) that don't involve much apart from sunbathing! So as you can imagine going to a cold city where I had never been before and where I couldn't speak the language at all was a little strange!
All I can say is that I loved it. Beautiful city with amazing history and architecture.
I have broken down my trip for you into each day so you can kind of get an idea of what you can get up to over a 2 day period in Prague! Yes we went for 3 nights but you can pretty much discount the first and last days due to travelling.

Thursday
Today was travel day!
We left the house at 5am so we could travel to the airport (45 minutes away), drop our car off at the car park, drop our bags and grab some breakfast before we got on the plane. Our flight was 7.30am and we were already boarding at 6.40am! So we literally had enough time to drop our case off, walk through security and grab toast to go!
We landed in Prague at 10.45am but by the time we had collected our case, got the bus and then the train into the centre it was around 12.30. We went straight to the hotel (Hotel Century Old Town Prague) expecting just to drop our bags off but to our surprise the room was ready! We headed straight up, dropped our case and went straight out as we were both STARVING!
Our hotel was situated a stones throw away from a large square where there was a humongous shopping centre and lots of places to eat. We headed to a restaurant that was outdoors but had plenty of heat lamps to keep us warm.
I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad and a glass of wine and Karl had a huge sandwich and chips and a beer of course!
We then decided to have a little wander around and get our bearings. We weren't too far from anything really.
We were both pretty tired by this point so we decided to head back to the hotel, get a shower and just order room service! I had a simple Chicken Wrap and Karl had another sandwich lol. We both shared a fruit platter too,

Friday
We woke up super fresh today- all that travelling really took it our of us!
Today we decided that we would visit Prague Castle. It was a little walk away so we got up early (ish), had breakfast and then headed straight out. We knew which direction we had to go in so we just carried on walking until we arrived at the river. We knew we had to cross the river so we decided to across the Charles Bridge and take lots of snaps!!

When we got to the other side it was definitely time for a coffee! We stopped at a lovely modern little café called Bread Gap. The food menu looked great so we thought we would come back for lunch on the way back.
We continued up the pretty big hill to the castle grounds. What a view!! You could see for miles from up there! Even better was that the sun decided to come out so it looked even better then.
We decided against going into the castle itself as the queues were just so long!! A little disappointing but I wanted to see more of Prague rather than stand in a queue for hours waiting. We walked around for another hour or so and then went back to Bread Gap for lunch. We both had omelettes and they were DELICIOUS!!! One of the best omelettes I have ever eaten!
From there we decided just to walk around and see what we could find! We headed back over Charles Bridge and just walked and walked. After a couple of hours it was time for a snack so we stopped at a little café called My Bistro & Café. It was time for a treat- Pistachio cake for me and Paris cake for Karl (basically chocolate cake). OH MY FRICKIN' GOD!! The cake was just... heavenly! Definitely up there with the best cake ever! So much so that I am still thinking about it 3 days later! I mean...just look at it!!!! Drool.

After the delicious cake we decided to head back to the hotel for a sit down and freshen up. Yes, the sit down turned into a nap :).
Once awake we got ready and went out to find somewhere for dinner and a few well deserved drinks. We decided to make this a phone free event so we could actually enjoy ourselves and spend good quality time together without the distraction of our phones. So I'm afraid there's no dinner photos for today!
I had Baked Salmon and Asparagus and Karl had Traditional Goulash Served in Bread.
In total (including the evening walk around) we covered 12 miles today!

Saturday
We didn't really plan anything particular for today so we decided to just start walking and see where we ended up!
We headed to the Astronomical Clock first as we kind of knew where that was from when we walked around on Thursday. We decided we would go up the tower and get some views from there. All I can say is- there's not much in the way of health and safety so it was a little scary! Great views though!
When we came down it was almost on the hour so we decided to watch the clock 'do it's thing' which was pretty cool!
It was then a case of lets just walk. We walked and discovered so many cute little streets, great buildings and an amazing sweetie shop! So of course we bought some sweets :)
We stopped off at a place called Nostress for our lunch- Chicken Caesar for me again and a Beef Salad with Rice Noodles for Karl. Both delicious.
At this point our legs had begun to get tired from all the walking so we decided to head back a little closer to the hotel so we could just head there if we wanted to get back quicker. On our little wander back we discovered a little Vegan and Raw called Raw Cha. We decided we would go an take a look. Obviously a look turned into sampling two of their raw cheesecakes! Lemon for me and Chocolate Orange for Karl. At this point we were pretty beat so we decided to walk back to the hotel which incidentally was just across the road! Talk about not noticing our surroundings!

From here it was pretty much the same routine as last night- chill, freshen up and head out for some dinner and drinks.
Although this time Karl took his phone so he got some foodie photos for you all :)
We were feeling pretty indecisive when it came to dinner tonight so we ended up in an Italian restaurant called Il Gusto. We both ordered Bruschetta to start and then I had Filet Mignon with Rosemary Potatoes and Grilled Vegetables whilst Karl had Filet Steak with the same sides.
After dinner we felt pretty tired so we decided to have a slow walk back to the hotel. On our way we decided we had to try a traditional Czech sweet treat called a Trdelnik. Not really sure how to describe this but there's a photo below. We had it stuffed with Nutella and shared it as we walked back. If you get the opportunity to try one then I would recommend it, it really was quite delicious!
