ask Italian- york

Picture
ASK Italian York is situated in the Grand Assembly Rooms on Blake Street. Like any other Ask Italian restaurant it serves great food. Think fresh bread, olives, pizzas and pastas. As their website states they love Italy and everything they do is inspired by the easy going, friendly Italian way.
York ASK is situated in a beautiful setting a stones throw away from the bustling city centre. It combines the old grand style of the Assembly Rooms with modern vibes and décor.

Don't be thrown off by thinking they only do pizzas and pastas. As someone who eats a healthy diet I always find something on the menu that suits me perfectly. Keep reading to find out what I ate on this trip to the busy restaurant.

Myself and Karl were visiting York to get Karl fitted for a wedding suit. We get married in 6 months so it was definitely time to get organised with some clothing! After the measuring and many decisions we had to make on the cloth, style, fit, etc of the suit (I say we, I mainly mean Karl) we decided it was definitely time for something to eat and a cheeky glass of wine!  We weren't far from ASK so we knew that's where we would go.

When we arrived we were seated straight away. I ordered a small glass of wine (getting the important part out of the way haha) and checked out the menu.
We are quite quick decision makers so we both knew fairly quickly what we wanted.
We decided to share a starter therefor went for the Antipasti Platter.
The platter came out like lightning! The bread was lovely and warm and the meats were very fresh and tasty.  I'm not the biggest fan of rocket so Karl took care of that for me :). Everything about the starter was just right, we enjoyed every last bite.

For our mains we chose different dishes.
I chose the Seabass with new potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach.
When it arrived my goodness it was hot! It smelt amazing though so I wasn't waiting around to dig in. The waiter came over and offered some cracked black pepper so I accepted.
Once I had got over the fact that it was burning my mouth (whoops) the flavours came out. The fish just fell apart in my mouth and had just the right amount of seasoning. The new potatoes and vegetables went really well with the fish and the potatoes were lovely and soft.
Karl had the Pork Belly served with new potatoes and cabbage in a red wine sauce. The piece of pork was very big! It was cooked perfectly and just fell apart on the fork. The flavour of the sauce was just right, not too overpowering and accompanied the pork perfectly.
Of course, I had a little taste just to, you know, make sure it was edible ;).

We were very good and actually very full after those two courses so we didn't order any pudding. All together the meal was very pleasant and we would definitely return again. The service was great, relaxed and friendly.
