Dublin- full weekend Itinerary

A couple of weekends ago myself and the hubby jet-setted off to an exotic and tropical place. Ok, I'm kidding, we went to Dublin.
As much as it was an awesome weekend there was no exotic or tropical anything! *adds another hot and exotic place to the travel list*
We spent three full days in the city of Dublin. It was the first time I had ever been to Dublin (2nd time for the hubby) so I was excited to discover the city and get some exploring done! I was also excited about the food as I had done my research beforehand and the healthy eating scene looked EPIC! In-fact it was epic and you read all about how epic it was here on my Dublin Top Healthy Eateries post.

Here is my itinerary from the weekend-

friday

7.30am- We landed in Dublin.

8.30am- We arrived at the hotel and managed to check in already! We stayed at The Marker Hotel, a modern and beautiful 5* hotel situated in Grand Canal Square.

9.45am- It was certainly breakfast time after getting up at 3.30am to head to the airport for our 6.30am flight!! We chose to head to the Legit Coffee Co. for avocado toast and eggs and all the coffee!! A truly perfect start to our Dublin weekend!

10.45am- It was time to be a tourist at the Guinness Storehouse. Walk through the many levels of the storehouse to discover the story of Guinness, how it's made and world of advertising. Although Guinness itself isn't for me I did enjoy the walk around the storehouse so I would recommend visiting whether you like it or not. The view from the Gravity Bar at the top is totally worth the walk round!

12.15pm- Dublin Castle was next on the list today. First things first, Dublin Castle is not actually a castle like we thought. It's actually just a big house/museum. It was very busy when we arrived too so get there early if you want to get straight in. They do tours but we just paid for a self-tour ticket. It's worth a visit if you want to take in some history!

1pm- Lunchtime which meant only one thing whilst Alpro was in town- the Alpro Planquet! This was a pop-up restaurant that was only there for one week but luckily for us its was there whilst we were! We managed to grab some Sweet Potato Curry and have a swing on the swinging bench :)

2pm- A visit to O'neill's Pub for a sit down and a drink! The pub was absolutely full of people eating and drinking so we made it a swift one before heading 3 doors down the road for more lunch (the Alpro place was more of a snack sized meal).

2.45pm- Avoca's for lunch and a cheeky little look around. Avoca's isn't just an eatery, it's a shop full of weird and wonderful things!! We had a good browse of everything and then headed upstairs for falafels and cake :).

4pm- We headed back to the hotel for a rest. Being awake since 3.30am meant we were definitely running on empty by this time!

4.45pm- Drinks on the rooftop bar of the hotel. I settled for a refreshing Bloom Gin and Tonic. Such a beautiful view of the city and all the way out to the sea from here!

7pm- Back to the room and room service was ordered! We went for food from the Equilibrium part of the menu which is their version of the healthy stuff. I'm not going to lie it wasn't great. I went for a chicken broth and Karl had a burger and both were very bland and tasteless. Even the sweet potato wedges that Karl got weren't great! I was quite disappointed.

saturday

6.40am- Hot Yoga with the lovely Vicky from The Flourishing Pantry. A first Time for me trying hot yoga and I really enjoyed it! *hot yoga review coming soon*

7.45am- We headed back to the hotel where I was staying and myself and Vicky caught up on life! A lovely but very pricey cup of coffee!!

8.30am- Breakfast time at Nut Butter, a new healthy eatery in Dublin. Think delicious porridge bowls and avocado toast. You can read more about Nut Butter in my guide to top healthy eateries in Dublin here.

9.15am- I headed back up to the room for a quick shower and freshen up before another day of exploring with the hubby!

10am- We walked towards the Natural History Museum and National Gallery; we visited both of these places. The Natural History Museum is a very old building and the museum displays are very old-school. Everything is in cabinets and it's a little bizarre and kind of creepy! But, it is what it is and I would still visit just to see what I mean!
After this we popped next door to the National Gallery to take in some art. To be honest, art isn't all that interesting to me but I am always intrigued by the buildings and architecture that galleries are usually set in. I also really like the peacefulness and quietness in a gallery. The gallery ticked both architectural and peacefulness boxes so I was happy :).

12pm- Lunch time at Eathos. We hadn't planned to have lunch this early but we weren't far away from Eathos so we decided to head there and grab lunch before we left the area. This place is INSANELY good! Again, you can read more about what we had in my top healthy eateries post here.

1pm- We had a pretty free afternoon with nothing planned in so we headed towards a bar that Karl wanted to visit, The Porterhouse. We walked through St. Stephens Green and took in some sunshine for half an hour before continuing to The Porterhouse. We chilled in here for an hour and Karl enjoyed a beer whilst I had water (rock & roll or what?!).

2.15pm- A walk along the river, heading back towards our hotel. It was really nice to wander with no real purpose or rushing to get to the next place. We strolled all the way back, stopping occasionally to take a good look at what was around us and to take a few photos of course.

4pm- We arrived back at the hotel and stopped in the bar area for a drink before heading upstairs to our room to get ready for dinner.

7pm- Dinner at Osteria Lucio, an Italian restaurant just down the road from the hotel. The food here was nice but nothing to really rave about. I had fish with vegetables and it was just a little bland. I think Karl enjoyed it more than I did! The staff here were amazing though; very caring, considerate and have a sense of humour which is always a winner for me. I think if I was to go again I would go for a pizza as they looked incredible!

9pm- Back to the hotel and bed! We are so hardcore aren't we?! ;)

Sunday

We enjoyed a nice lazy morning in bed and caught up on all the lost sleep this morning. It was the perfect start to any Sunday!

9am- Breakfast at Brother Hubbard (north) which again I have featured in my top healthy eateries in Dublin guide! You can read about Brother Hubbard (north) here.

10.30am- After breakfast we headed so somewhere Karl wanted to visit. Before I tell you this was NOT my idea and to be honest I wouldn't have chosen to visit if I wasn't with him! I'm talking about the Leprechaun Museum. This was up there with the weirdest and most bizarre experiences of my life so far. It was like following a story which, don't get me wrong was fine and the lady was very enthusiastic and did her storytelling very well, but my goodness it was so weird!!! If you are a little weird or are genuinely curious then please do give it a go but in all honesty, I wouldn't really recommend it!

11.30- We had some free time before lunch so we headed back to St. Stephen's Green to soak up a little sunshine and chill out.

12.45pm- We walked up the high street to a posh department store called Brown Thomas which is like the Selfridges of Ireland. We headed upstairs to Green & Bean Cafe where we had a light lunch before heading back to the hotel.

2pm- A walk back to the hotel for a relaxing spa afternoon.

7pm- Dinner at Fallon & Byrne. OMG this place is truly amazing!! Read more about it here.

8.45pm- Drinks in the hotel bar before bed as it's home in the morning!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my weekend in Dublin! It was a truly amazing weekend and I would highly recommend visiting, even if it's just for the food!
