iraw rawl-ups review and mango smoothie bowl recipe

If you are anything like me, you will always get excited when a new product becomes available to try. This time its iRaw's Rawl-Ups (love the name!) that have come on to the health scene.

First of all, let me tell you a little about iRaw Healthy Habits;

iRaw Healthy Habits is a new brand that has only just begun it's journey in the health industry. iRaw create raw, vegan and organic snacks, cookies and even meals. They use pure, all natural ingredients in their foods and ensure that by using organic they are contributing to a healthier ecosystem, as well as making sure we eat healthier foods to lead a healthy lifestyle. As their website states-
"iRaw believes that life should be full of colour, flavour and tantalising sensations without ever compromising the very pure nature of raw ingredients. PURITY IN EVERY BITE!"

The Rawl-Ups

iRaw Rawl-Ups come in three flavours;
Creamy Caramel,
Green Superfood,
Spicy Chocolate.

They are sold on the iRaw website for £3.15 for a 60g bag which I think is pretty damn reasonable!

The first thing that I want to point out about these little snacks is that the ingredients in each flavour are just amazing! Buckweat, Agave, Lucuma, Maca, Spirulina... need I say more? The Creamy Caramel and Green Superfood flavours are completely nut free too! Which, if you have a nut allergy is amazing news! Most healthy snacks and bars contain nuts which for most is fine and isn't a problem. But, if you have a nut allergy and want to eat healthy? It can obviously be quite challenging to find brands that don't use nuts- iRaw are here to save the day!

I love the way they come in little snack size bags, perfect for popping in your bag so you always have something healthy to grab when those hunger pangs strike. Each bag contains a few Rawl-Ups so you can share them with friends if you are feeling generous :)

So, let's get down to the nitty gritty here...

Taste!
I will talk you through my thoughts on each flavour and give them a mark out of 10 for general flavour and texture.

Spicy chocolate

This was obviously the first flavour I went for, because you know, chocolate. Although, I was a little unsure at first of the spicy side of things- I'm not really a huge 'spicy' person so I wasn't really quite sure what to expect.
The flavour- Let me just tell you, if you're not a spicy person do not fret. I really liked the hint of cayenne pepper in these Rawl-Ups. It brought a completely new dimension to chocolate for me, and I like it! You get a good strong chocolate flavour in these followed by that hint of spiciness from the pepper. The texture is pretty much like any other raw snack but not too chewy which is nice.
I imagine this flavour crumbled over some Greek Yoghurt with berries and peanut butter or over your morning bowl of porridge.
I give Spicy Chocolate a solid 9/10.

Green superfood

Every time I see the words 'green' and 'superfood' in the same sentence I think- Spirulina. And in this case, I wasn't wrong. I always have this fear that that's all I'm going to taste (all of you foodies out there will know THAT taste). But, not in these Rawl-Ups! They have quite a rich flavour but not too rich or overpowering, rather pleasant actually. I really like that they aren't particularly sweet either. Again, texture is the same as the Spicy Chocolate flavour.
I used this flavour to top my Mango Smoothie Bowl which you can see the recipe for below.
I give Green Superfood an 8.5/10

Creamy caramel

I was very excited to try this flavour as I had seen Lucuma on the ingredients list. If you don't know, Lucuma is a Peruvian fruit that naturally has a caramel flavour so this is where the caramel comes from in healthy caramel flavoured foods. No actual caramel to be seen here!
This flavour was good, you get a hint of caramel but not as much as I expected. Out of the three flavours this was my least favourite but still good. The texture was slightly different to the other two, creamier and it kind of melted in my mouth a little. I guess it's in the name 'Creamy Caramel' haha.
I give Creamy Caramel two marks- a 7/10 for flavour but a 9/10 for texture.

Mango Smoothie Bowl

Picture
Now I know you may not think so looking at the weather but, it is officially summertime so it's only right if we start having refreshing meals right?! That's why I created this delicious Mango Smoothie Bowl.
It is probably THE simplest thing you will ever make and with only four ingredients for the smoothie you really cant go wrong!
This smoothie bowl makes a perfect late Sunday breakfast and, it only takes 5 minutes to make!

Recipe

1 Cup Frozen Mango
1 Frozen Banana
1 Cup Greek Yoghurt
1/2 Cup Almond Milk

Method

Throw all ingredients into a blender and blend away!
It will take about 4-5 minutes for it to blend all the frozen fruit.
Once blended pour into a bowl and top with your favourite toppings!

I used Blackberries, Chia Seeds and the Green Superfood Rawl-Ups. The refreshing flavour of the smoothie combined with the Green Superfood Rawl-Ups was pretty darn good! A great contrast and something a little different than sweet on sweet.
Give it a go and see what you think!

You can get your hands on the Rawl-Ups here-
