reflecting on my 2017 goals

2017 how fast you have gone!! It has been a very interesting and actually a bloody good year for me! I've manage to achieve quite a lot that I wanted to- work-wise and in my personal life, so now the time has come to look back and see what I have actually managed to achieve as well as the stuff I maybe didn't quite manage. I don't know if you remember my 2017 goals but please take a look here to remind yourself.

fitness

My main fitness goals for 2017 were-

Running- complete the Leeds Half Marathon
Weight Training- Build my strength back up and get that 100kg deadlift again
Pull-ups- 5 unassisted pull-ups.

How did I do?
Well I can proudly say that I completely and utterly smashed two out of three of these goals! Not only did I run the Leeds Half Marathon this year, I completed the Yorkshire Marathon! Yes, that's right, I am officially a marathon runner! I also managed to get my 100kg deadlift a couple of times this year which I am super proud of (although my back will not agree with you at this point though...ouch!). My pull-up goal wasn't all a loss, I managed 3 unassisted ones back in June/July which is still a bloody good going if you ask me! Am I happy? Yes I am :).

health

My main health goals for 2017 were-

Fruit & Veggies- include more in my diet
Healthy mind- continue to be positive and practice self-love

How did I do?
Honestly? I think I did well,  more so on the healthy mind part. I definitely did achieve both of these goals but for the most part they were during the first 6-7 months of the year. By August things had slipped a little and I was back to were I was, not completely, but almost. I definitely have consumed more veggies and more of a variety too but again, I don't know if it's the time of year or what but I'm back to how I was feeling this time last year, not eating enough fruit and vegetables and slowly starting to creep back into the realms of not loving myself like I should be. I'm definitely more aware of these thoughts this year so I have embraced it a little more but I'm still not in the best frame of mind at the moment. It's ok though because I am certainly in a better place mentally so I know everything is fine and I will be back on top form before I know it.

travel

My main travel goals for 2017 were-

Mallorca- go for a long holiday and tour the island with Karl
Honeymoon- book something hot, exotic and beautiful

Did this happen?
One did, one didn't. The honeymoon part definitely did happen and we travelled to Mexico for 11 days. It was absolutely beautiful and we had the time of our lives! You can read about it here, here and here- it's in three parts.
The Mallorca holiday unfortunately didn't happen. We still visited but it was for a long weekend at Easter so there was not much exploring to be had! The reason it didn't happen? We decided to explore new places instead. We were both lucky to be able to explore Barcelona, Prague and Paris instead and I wouldn't go back and change it. The good news? In 2018 we are doing the Mallorca tour!! Time has been booked in and we are doing it!

life

My 'life' 2017 goals were-

Work- leave my full-time job in a nursery and do something different
Blogging- Continue to enjoy it and produce content
Ambassador roles- take on new roles
Cooking- Bring you more tasty and healthy recipes

Did I achieve these?
Oohh where do I start with this one? This area of my goals is probably the one that's seen the most change. As you know I left being a full-time nursery manager at the end of January 2017. I then had a month a half off to decide what I really wanted to do with my life and that's when I decided blogging and becoming a freelance recipe developer and content creator was one of the things I really wanted. As this takes time to build up I had to do something else to bring some money in so I decided to apply for a part-time position in a nursery- nothing with great responsibility, just something I enjoyed and obviously something to earn some money! I got a job working 4 days a week and decided to work on my blog and building up relationships with brands alongside this. Fast-forward to now and I am still at the nursery (now only working 3 days) but I have managed to create some brilliant relationships with amazing brands that I love. I have also managed to gain some recipe creation work and I work with a couple of brands on this. I am nowhere near where I want to be with this but I have a clear pathway in this area and some serious work to do in 2018 but I am looking forward to each and every bit of this. I'd say that goal can ticked off, don't you?
Also with regards to working I recently trained to become a personal trainer so I am now a qualified PT. There are lots of exciting fitness things coming in 2018!
Blogging has continued going from strength to strength with more people visiting my blog and sharing my posts (thank you!). I love producing content more than ever and I am so excited for 2018 content!
Ambassador roles haven't been a huge focus but, I have become an ambassador for Oppo ice-cream which is a dream! Healthy ice-cream anyone?
Cooking has been my biggest and most achieved goal. As I mentioned I have secured on-going recipe creation work for a couple of brands so it means I get to cook more, yay! I also launched a newsletter back in October where I share exclusive recipes with my subscribers, double yay! The biggest cooking achievement in 2017? Being invited to do a cooking demonstration at Refresh Festival! This was nerve-wrecking as hell but I did it and loved every minute of it! It's definitely something I would love to do again in 2018.

So I think I can safely say that my goals went pretty well! On to 2018 now...
